Is Mahakumbh also the confluence of faith and social equality for BJP?

New Delhi: UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has often called the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj as the “samajik samta ka mahaparva” or the great festival of social equality. And using the Mahakumbh as the occasion where more than 40 crore people are expected in the course of the 45 day event, the state government is also looking to walk the talk and send across the message of “samajik samta” or social equality. Among the several government posters that have adorned the Kumbh city in Prayagraj, the two stand out. In one, Lord Rama is seen with Nishad Raj and in second, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seen washing the feet of sanitation workers during the 2019 Kumbh.

According to information, BJP has tried to formulate a message to woo the OBCs, especially Nishad community and the Scheduled Castes (SCs) through these posters.

The attempts to woo the Nishads (fisherman community) and Kurmis (OBCs) is on the priority list of BJP as the two big leaders of the NDA – Sanjay Nishad of NISHAD party and Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal (Sonelal) are constantly at loggerheads with the BJP government in relation with one issue or the other.
