Delhi Polls: Who will be BJP’s CM, a Jat or a Gurjar or a…..?

New Delhi: Among the 364 villages of the national capital, Jats are the single biggest caste in about 225 of these. The Gurjars enjoy dominance in about 70 of these. According to political observers, the two communities – Jat and Gurjar have major influence in about 45 assembly constituencies of Delhi and decide the winner or loser in at least 20 of these. This amounts to almost 29 per cent of the total 70 assembly seats in Delhi and hence, important for any political party looking for a majority in Delhi.

Meanwhile, aware of their political weightage, this time both the communities are demanding that the chief minister should come from amongst them. The only time Delhi had a Jat chief minister was from 1996 to 1998 when Late Sahib Singh Verma took over from Madan Lal Khurana. Interestingly, Verma was also the last chief minister born in Delhi until Atishi Singh took over as chief minister in September last year.
