Delhi polls: Look at how Congress politics in some key states helped BJP recently
New Delhi: The Exit Polls for the Delhi assembly elections have predicted that BJP will form government in the national capital after 27 years. While BJP deserves all the kudos for its fantastic performance, it cannot be ruled out that the division of anti-BJP votes must have played a big role in the saffron surge. And with Congress being a junior partner compared to the ruling AAP in Delhi, it cannot escape the blame.
After AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal announced that his party will go alone in Delhi, Congress had decided to go full-throttle in the elections and has been unsparing in its attack on the ruling party. As a result, the political observers had warned that Congress’ strengthened performance in these elections can only come at the cost of AAP and not the BJP. And going by the Exit Polls, it looks like Congress has done better than the 4.2 per cent votes it garnered in the last elections. So, has Congress once again helped BJP in forming the government in a state that has time and again rejected the double-engine sarkar? What about Kejriwal’s arrogance that he made a unilateral decision to go alone? Did he forget in his haughtiness that compared to Haryana where Congress did not share seats with AAP, he was battling 10 years of anti-incumbency and corruption charges and needed to tie all loose ends to take on a party like BJP? It seems, neither Congress, nor AAP learned any lessons from their Haryana debacle and together, gifted both........
