Italian GP: Max Verstappen's record breaking lap puts him in Monza pole
New Delhi: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen takes pole position in the 2025 Italian Grand Prix, taking the fastest lap in Formula One. The Q3 today was a rare day this season when the two McLarens weren’t fighting for the pole. In Q1, it was Mercedes driver George Russell who had the fastest lap, while Q2 saw Verstappen take the fastest lap.
In both sessions, the McLarens weren’t close to being the second fastest either. Both Verstappen along Russell looked to have a better shot at taking the pole in the race, along with Kimi Antonelli, the local boy at Monza.
In the initial run during Q3, it was Lando Norris who was at the front of the pack. In Q2, he had just managed to escape elimination thanks to the slipstream provided by his teammate Oscar Piastri. Piastri was better than Norris in Q3, who had been the quickest during FP2 and FP3. Russell was next, sitting between the two McLarens. It was Charles Leclerc who, in Ferrari’s home race, took away the provisional pole again.
