‘He rejected it’: Ex-PCB chief selector blames Imran Khan’s domestic revamp for Pakistan cricket’s decline

Former Pakistan chief selector Haroon Rasheed has linked the decline of Pakistan cricket to the domestic reforms introduced during Imran Khan’s tenure, claiming the former captain favoured reducing the number of first-class teams.

New Delhi: Former chief selector and head coach Haroon Rasheed has blamed ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan for the downfall of Pakistan cricket after he changed the domestic structure. Haroon, who served on the task force to study the domestic cricket system during Imran Khan’s tenure as the Prime Minister, revealed how his former Pakistan skipper had insisted on changing Pakistan’s first-class structure to just five or six teams.

“I was part of the cricket board and task force and I remember when we met with Imran we submitted a hybrid domestic cricket model. But he rejected it outright,” Haroon said on a podcast on the ‘Smash It’ sports channel, as quoted by PTI.
