New Delhi: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on September 7, 2026, gave in-principle approval to defence procurement proposals worth around Rs 1.10 lakh crore. The approvals, known as Acceptance of Necessity (AoN), are an important first step in the defence procurement process. They indicate that the government has agreed in principle that the armed forces need the proposed equipment. The approvals cover the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.

What is for the Indian Army ?

For the Indian Army, the proposals include CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, high-mobility vehicles, mine-laying systems, Advanced Light Helicopters, trawl tanks and bridge systems.

CBRN stands for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear. These specialised CBRN reconnaissance vehicles can detect and identify dangerous substances and mark contaminated areas. This helps soldiers know where it is safe to operate.
