TRAI chief warns AI in telecom must not weaken accountability
TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said AI can help India’s telecom sector move towards more autonomous networks. He called for human oversight, clear accountability and responsible deployment as operators increase their use of AI.
Artificial intelligence could push India’s telecom networks towards much greater autonomy, but companies cannot let automation make responsibility harder to trace, TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said at CO.AI 2026 in New Delhi.
Lahoti said AI could change how networks are managed, how services are built and how risks are spotted. He described telecom networks as some of the most complex infrastructure systems in the country and said operators could gradually move beyond conventional automation towards systems that make more decisions on their own.
