BRICS Summit: Inside Putin’s Aurus Senat and Xi’s Hongqi N701 Limousine

New Delhi: Several world leaders and senior officials have visited the national capital to attend the 18th BRICS summit happening on Saturday and Sunday. Aside from the delegation, there is something that the world leaders have brought with them.

Some of the world’s most powerful leaders have also brought their highly protected state vehicles built to give security while also working perfectly as mobile command centres. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday in the Aurus Senat. It is a heavily armoured limousine used for his official travel. The arrival added another example of “cardiplomacy” to the capital, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin travelling together in the Russian presidential car after their bilateral meeting. The talks took place just a day before the 11-member BRICS summit.

Putin adopted the Aurus Senat as his official presidential vehicle in 2018. It replaced the Mercedes-Benz S 600 Guard Pullman previously used by the Russian presidency. The Senat was built under Russia’s Kortezh programme, which was created to build locally produced vehicles for senior government officials.
