Kedarnath ‘Roop Chhadi’ controversy: Uttarakhand govt removes BKTC CEO amid rising complaints & resentments

Ahead of the Char Dham Yatra, the Uttarakhand government has removed BKTC CEO Vijay Thapliyal following multiple controversies, including the Roop Chhadi ritual dispute. He has been sent back to his parent department, Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti, Dehradun, after rising complaints and resentment.

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has taken major action before the Char Dham Yatra by removing Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vijay Thapliyal.

He has been sent back to his original department, Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti, Dehradun.

Controversies During Tenure

Thapliyal was appointed as BKTC CEO on deputation on July 29, 2024. However, his tenure was marked by several controversies. The most prominent issue was the permission granted to take Baba Kedar’s sacred Roop Chhadi from Kedarnath Dham to Nanded in Maharashtra.
