Explained: Both AAP and Kejriwal need to remember that honesty is still the best policy

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ousted from power after 10 years in the Delhi Assembly elections, the results of which were declared on Saturday. Such was the anger of the public against the AAP, that stalwarts like party convener Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Jain, and Saurabh Bharadwaj could not save their seats.

The biggest upset for AAP was in the form of former CM Kejriwal who lost the New Delhi seat in his fourth poll outing. Earlier, in 2014 too, Kejriwal had to face defeat in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. He contested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lagged behind by more than 3.71 lakh votes.

Out of the 70 assembly seats AAP managed to win just 22 and it is believed that corruption became a big issue in this election, due to which AAP suffered such a huge loss. Now the big question after losing the CM chair too, what next for Kejriwal, who once had the ambition to become PM? It may be recalled that Kejriwal’s first poll defeat was at the hands of BJP’s top leader Narendra Modi and the second defeat was at the hands of BJP’s state level leader Pravesh Verma. Thus after his defeat in the Delhi elections questions are being raised about the future of the Aam Aadmi Party and Kejriwal.

The AAP party which was launched with great pomp and show after the Anna Hazare movement was seen as a whiff of fresh air in Delhi amid the corruption-ridden Congress government. The common man had a lot of hopes from the people like Kejriwal and his team. But once the party achieved its political ambitions its leaders........
