Kartavya Path to witness historic appearance of Ladakh’s Bactrian camels Galwan and Nubra
New Delhi: When Galwan and Nubra step onto Kartavya Path during the Republic Day Parade, they will carry far more than ceremonial significance. The two double-humped Bactrian camels from Ladakh will symbolise a quiet but important shift in how the Indian Army is preparing for operations in some of the world’s harshest terrain.
This will be the first time Bactrian camels are part of the Republic Day march, offering the public a glimpse of an animal that has long been a lifeline in cold deserts but has rarely occupied centre stage. Their presence reflects a renewed focus on dependable, non-mechanised logistics in Eastern Ladakh where altitude, weather and terrain often overpower machines.
