Maha CM Devendra Fadnavis' crackdown on corruption signals both intent and integrity
New Delhi: There’s governance and then there’s progressive governance — where one concerns itself with routine administration, the other is about holistic growth. It is amply evident that if the vision is ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, and every state is to contribute as engines of growth, then the ideal model is one that is both futuristic and aggressively so. It is here that Maharashtra chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis, brings in his expertise. As a seasoned politician — Fadnavis has been CM of the state three times — he knows that the need of the hour is an administration that is acutely forward looking while at the same time has a pulse around integrity.
54-year-old Fadnavis not only believes in this ideology but he lives it too. One look at his policies and strict governance model and one will get the drift. His latest diktat which aims to “fix” the “fixers,” serves as a reminder that corruption within an administration is a strict no-go. The CM declared on Monday that he will not allow “persons facing corruption charges to be appointed as personal assistants (PA) and officers on special duty (OSD) to cabinet ministers.” Going by this call for action, Fadnavis has cleared names of 109 candidates for the post from a list of 125 that were submitted. Those that did not make the cut were rejected because there were doubts on their credentials.
