Hunain and Seek: Pakistan Navy Ship Rams an Indian Warship, Then Quietly Legs It for Harbour
Pakistan Navy ship PNS Hunain collided with an Indian warship during a naval encounter in the North Arabian Sea on September 15, 2026. India reported damage to the Pakistani vessel and summoned Islamabad's diplomat. Pakistan has lodged its own protest, accusing the Indian Navy of unsafe conduct.
On the evening of 15 September, an Indian Navy warship was doing what Indian Navy warships do most days of the week: minding its own business on a routine surveillance run in the North Arabian Sea. Then PNS Hunain, a Pakistan Navy offshore patrol vessel, decided the ocean wasn’t big enough for the both of them.
According to Indian government sources cited by multiple news organisations, the Pakistani ship approached the Indian unit at high speed and manoeuvred in a manner officials later described as “unprofessional and unsafe”. The two vessels collided. New Delhi says there was no major or structural damage to its ship and no injuries. PNS Hunain, meanwhile, was subsequently reported to have headed back to harbour with damage of its own.
