For millions of young Indians, the study desk simply turns into an office workstation—bringing with it hours of laptops, video calls, phones and late-night scrolling. Talking to News9 Live, Dr Garima, Senior Consultant at Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, says this transition can make digital eye strain an everyday problem rather than a temporary phase of student life.

India’s digital footprint illustrates why the issue deserves attention. TRAI data for March 2026 puts the country’s internet subscriber base at 1.093 billion, while average wireless data consumption reached 26.70 GB per wireless data subscriber per month.
