New Delhi: A US federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from enforcing its latest attempt to restrict birthright citizenship, dealing another blow to the president’s long-running push to curb automatic citizenship for children born in the United States.
Major intervention from court
US District Judge Deborah Boardman issued a preliminary injunction against the new executive order, which was signed by Trump in August and specifically sought to target so-called ‘birth tourism’ and broaden the circumstances under which US-born children could be denied citizenship.
