UK PM Starmer meets Trump; will his flattery, charm sway US on Ukraine and tariffs?

New Delhi: Ever since getting re-elected to the White House, Donald Trump has been extremely busy. First, singing executive orders on a roll, and now meeting foreign leaders in quick succession. What started with a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, then led to a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on February 24, and then with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on February 27. The meeting between the two reportedly went well, Starmer called the visit with Trump “very productive” and said they discussed a plan for peace “that is tough and fair.”

Donald Trump’s relations with Europe at large, since his recent tilt towards Russia instead of Ukraine, have not been the greatest. There have been worries about Trump leaving the so-called “West” alliance, even NATO, as he looks to chart on towards a new multipolar global engagement. Starmer went to meet Trump with this recent background but as per reports, the meeting was rather a productive one.

A large part of this can be attributed to the personal rapport between Starmer and Trump, while both come from varying political backgrounds, they were able to find common ground with a bit of flattery and charisma smartly thrown in from Starmer in the mix, for good measure. While it........
