Typhoon Dolphin: Shanghai cancels 1,300 flights as China issues red alert, over 1 million evacuated
China has issued its highest-level typhoon warning as Typhoon Dolphin approaches the country’s eastern coast, bringing powerful winds and torrential rain. Shanghai has cancelled more than 1,300 flights, while over one million people have been moved from vulnerable areas.
New Delhi: China on Sunday stepped up emergency preparations as Typhoon Dolphin approached its densely populated eastern coast, with authorities issuing the country’s highest-level typhoon alert and ordering mass evacuations. The storm has already caused disruption in Japan and Taiwan and is expected to bring heavy rain, flooding and landslides to eastern China.
Shanghai’s Hongqiao and Pudong airports cancelled more than 1,300 flights, with around 60 per cent of scheduled services affected, as the storm moved closer. Flight cancellations and other transport disruptions have also been reported across Zhejiang and neighbouring areas.
