India-Pakistan T20 World Cup clash to go ahead as per schedule after Pak govt takes U-tun on boycott decision

New Delhi: The much-awaited clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is set to go ahead as per schedule in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. The Pakistan government made a U-turn on its decision to boycott the game after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Mohsin Naqvi, briefed the Pakistan Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, following a marathon meeting between ICC and PCB officials in Lahore on Sunday.

The marquee clash, scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15, will go ahead as per the original schedule after all decks were cleared during the meeting. It was a tripartite meeting at the Gaddafi Stadium, which was also attended by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul.

Uncertainty was looming over the India-Pakistan game, arguably the most sought-after fixture in the T20 World Cup 2026, after the Pakistan government announced earlier this month that it had directed PCB to boycott the clash. Pakistan’s decision came in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were replaced from the tournament after refusing to travel to India, citing security reasons.
