Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet in New Delhi on Saturday on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit. This will be Xi’s first visit to India post the bloody Galwan clashes that virtually paused both trade and diplomatic relations between the neighbours.

Many are hyping the meeting as a reset for relations. This is an overstatement. It is true that over the last two years, India and China have tried to right the situation in Eastern Ladakh, but the process has been tedious and misunderstandings over territorial claims still plague relations. Every once in a while, there are reports of troops eyeballing each other over differing perceptions over the LAC. There is every danger that because the two are still not resolved to accept each other’s territorial claim, a Galwan-like incident could afflict........
