Opinion | Why National Education Policy Rattles DMK?

A Chinese proverb says, “To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world".

Politicians of Tamil Nadu are insanely obsessed with the belief that Tamils should not learn Hindi and Sanskrit. But the foreign name sporting demagogues of Tamil Nadu’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who get rattled by Hindi, are submissively silent about the rampant Arabic invasion happening in Tamil Nadu.

There are Arabic colleges, Madrassas, and schools, that impart teaching only in Arabic language, all across Tamil Nadu.

There are name boards of institutions in Arabic across the state, but the DMK is incapable of even raising a whimper against the expansion of Arabic language in Tamil Nadu.

The opposition to the three-language formula stems from the calculated design to keep a tight stranglehold on the Tamil speaking population, to ensure that they get access to only Tamil. This strategy, coupled with making high-decibel noises about Tamil culture being in danger, is founded on the premise that only the DMK is capable of safeguarding Tamil and culture. The Tamil-speaking population are considered to be a vote-dam, whose votes will be drained away, as and when required, to sustain the Stalin clan and its family members in power for perpetuity.

Linguistics and culture are very intertwined, this realisation has been known to the DMK leadership, ever since the party’s inception. They keep brandishing the slogan that Tamil and culture are in danger, as and when they desire to whip up a frenzy in their party cadres, especially during election time, and as a cover-up for governmental lapses and inefficiencies.

We live in a multilingual world, where networking and connections are more important than ever. The world is becoming increasingly globalised and knowing a second language can always give any person an unfair advantage. By being proficient in three languages, the population is only getting more empowered. There are many limitations of surviving only on a single language,........
