High in the eastern Himalayas, Tawang is preparing to welcome the world in the spirit of India’s enduring ethos, Atithi Devo Bhava—“the guest is God".
From October 29-31, the town in Arunachal Pradesh will host the 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM 2026), with invitations extended to 27 countries. Bringing together international tour operators, influencers, journalists and tourism stakeholders, the gathering will showcase the region’s landscapes, monasteries and living traditions. By extending an invitation to China, India has also demonstrated a generous spirit, offering hospitality despite political differences. Beyond promoting tourism, the event conveys confidence and openness, inviting visitors to discover Tawang through its people and everyday life. For local communities, it is an opportunity to tell their own stories, share their cultural heritage and welcome guests with the warmth that gives Atithi Devo Bhava its meaning.
