Team USA’s ungrateful Olympians: Letters to the Editor — Feb. 11, 2026
The Issue: Team USA Olympians saying they have “mixed emotions” about representing America.
I don’t care how good a skier he is, individuals like Hunter Hess have no business being in the Olympics (“Stars & strikes,” Feb. 8).
People watch sports to get away from politics, and representing one’s country in an event as prestigious as the Olympics demands unity.
Instead of staying in Italy, Hess and his minions should take a one-way trip to China, Russia or North Korea, where things may be more to their liking.

As kids, I am sure today’s Olympians also dreamed of representing America in the Olympics.
When did their education fail them?
Members of the Miracle on Ice team were grateful and proud to represent this country.
America certainly had its flaws in 1980 — hostages, gas lines, Jimmy Carter — but that didn’t stop former Olympians’ patriotism.
