Mamdani should have invited heroic Finest to Gracie Mansion, not the Hamas-loving worst
What a statement Mayor Zohran Mamdani could have made — if he’d hosted those two hero cops instead of a terror sympathizer at Gracie Mansion on Sunday night.
NYPD Chief Aaron Edwards and Sgt. Luis Navarro literally leapt into action on Saturday to nab the ISIS-inspired alleged bomb throwers, Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi, outside the mayor’s official residence.
Having the two Finest at a Gracie Mansion meal the next evening would’ve signaled major respect for the men and women in blue who keep the city safe, and a rejection of the hateful brand of Islam that inspired the suspects.
But the mayor instead chose to make a public point of hosting anti-Israel organizer Mahmoud Khalil for a Ramadan dinner to mark the one-year anniversary of his initial detention in (still ongoing) deportation case.
True to their training and devotion to our city, “NYPD Chief Aaron Edwards and Sergeant Luis Navarro ran towards the danger so that others could run to safety,” noted Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, praising praise of their “courage” and “selflessness.”
They didn’t think twice about running right at Balat as he hurled a smoking IED at them — then chasing him down after the device failed to go off.

Khalil, on the other hand, is an ex-Columbia University grad student infamous for his anti-Israel and pro-Hamas activism, his arrest by ICE and his pending deportation over apparent green card fraud.
An instantly-iconic photo, now racking up millions of online views and memes, captured Chief Edwards leaping over a barricade in a single bound to take down the wannabe terrorist.
“Some heroes wear capes — Chief Aaron Edwards wears blue,” the NYPD cheered on X.
Yes, Mamdani praised the NYPD and both heroes at Monday’s press conference about the chaotic and near-deadly event outside his home; no, the mayor and his wife weren’t at Gracie Mansion during the incident.
Yet the ISIS-wannabes still represent a horrific distortion of the mayor’s declared faith, a point he’s been strangely hesitant to make.
Instead, he opted to fete Khalil — who “made his name as a ringleader of violent anti-American and anti-Semitic university protests,” to quote White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly — and his family for an iftar dinner . . . while New York’s Finest stood watch outside.
Mamdani has claimed he wants to be the mayor for all New Yorkers, but he’s sure not acting that way.
