Letitia James’ demands for NY hospitals to resume mutilating children is just another ideological con job

In her latest bit of grandstanding, state Attorney General Letitia James ordered NYU Langone hospital to resume “gender-affirming care” for minors by March 11 — or else . . . what?

NYU Langone Health quite rightly called her bluff — right as a matter of law, and of basic decency.

Yes, it was Trump administration pressure that prompted Langone’s mid-February move to discontinue its Transgender Youth Health Program, which offered puberty blockers and hormone treatments to adolescents and younger children diagnosed as being in the “wrong” body.

That canceled appointments with two 12-year-olds to get implants that would drip drugs into their bodies to stop them from entering puberty.

Advocates call that demented procedure “lifesaving” and fully reversible; it is neither, even if not as radical as the full-on surgical transition that the same advocates also lie about.

The ugly truths about “gender-affirming care” are why Team Trump moved to ban federal funding for any hospital that offers it.

James joined 19 other states in suing the Department of Health and Human Services, claiming that the feds overreached their authority — but the Social Security Act orders HHS to set standards of care for facilities participating in Medicare or Medicaid, which provide nearly half of all US hospital revenue.

The AG claims Langone must obey a New York state law that requires hospitals “to offer care without discrimination based on gender identity or expression.”

For starters, there’s no “gender discrimination” here, nor is this stuff genuine health care: That some patients have a legitimate medical need for hormone therapy, or even mastectomies and other “trans” procedures, doesn’t make it kosher as “treatment” for confused tweens and teens.

James is simply embracing the ideological con job that insists otherwise, and posing as able to do something about it.

Tellingly, her office has ducked our questions about her next steps: Does she mean to arrest doctors who refuse to mutilate children? Sue hospital administrators whose revenue will vanish if they obey her?

While we wait to see, we’re happy to see what you find now when you click through the NYU Langone website’s link to the “Transgender Care for Adolescents” section.

“For adolescents, we provide psychological counseling for the entire family.”

Amen! That’s the kind of help these suffering children really need.
