Racist liberals should quit calling everyone else racist

Nothing screams condescension quite like telling your audience that you, despite being the governor of California, are a low achiever just like them.

Gavin Newsom, hawking himself and his memoir in Georgia on Sunday, told black Americans they should relate to him because he bombed his SATs and can barely read.

This racist bid to bond with black voters comes as the guv trots the globe and tours the nation, his focus not on California but on his own presidential ambition.

It also points to a broader reality about the Democratic Party: It’s often led by politicians who slam opponents as racist –– while expecting a pass on their own racism.

It’s time we said enough.

From Hillary Clinton to Joe Biden to Gavin Newsom, leftist politicians have long used race to feign virtue, divide Americans, and insult political opponents.

Of course, Newsom’s remarks have sparked a backlash.

As Johnnie Morgan, president emeritus of the California Republican Assembly, told The California Post:

“Public officials — especially those who hold the highest office in our state — carry a responsibility to communicate with sensitivity, respect, and awareness of historical context. Comments that appear to equate race with intellectual benchmarks undermine the very principles of equality and dignity that leaders should champion.”

Also egregious: Elected Democrats who pose as benefactors of minority communities –– with paeans to diversity, equity and inclusion –– while inflicting policies that make life worse for people of color (and for everyone else).

Newsom subscribes to that channel, too.

(BTW, somehow we doubt the guv insults his audience as low-SAT-scoring poor readers when giving a toast at the French Laundry.)

On Monday, Newsom assailed those who dared criticize his disparagement of black voters.

He delivered classic deflection, with a profane twist.

The governor’s message: Forget what I said, my critics and President Trump are the real racists, and “spare me your fake f–ing outrage.”

Bottom line: The rest of us are tired of being called racist while Democrats get away with racist rants of their own.

If the Democrats want to attack their rivals’ policies, that’s fine, fair game.

But enough with the tedious lecturing on race, while exploiting race for their own advantage.

You don’t get to do this to us anymore.

Not after Newsom’s new low.
