The district administration of South Waziristan has imposed Section 144 across Upper and Lower South Waziristan in response to escalating security concerns and to facilitate the movement of security forces. The measure, effective from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, prohibits all non-essential movement and mandates the closure of markets and commercial centres.

In Upper South Waziristan, Deputy Commissioner Asmatullah Wazir confirmed that Section 144 is enforced in the tehsils of Sarvekai and Sararogha. Key routes affected include Makin, Sararogha, Kot Kai, Spinkai Raghzai up to Nazar Khel, and the road from Dargai Bridge via Madi Jan, Sheen Warsak, and Moley Khan Sarai to Chagmalai. Residents are instructed to stop vehicles at least 50 metres from security checkpoints and ensure passengers exit if requested. Violators will be held personally accountable.

Similarly, in Lower South Waziristan, Deputy Commissioner Musarat Zaman announced that Section 144 will remain in force in Wana and the surrounding areas. Restricted routes include Wana, Tiarza Gate, Karb Kot, Tanai, and Azizabad Chowk up to Dargai Bridge. Movement is only permitted for emergencies with prior authorisation from police or security personnel, along with valid identification and travel documents.

Officials stressed that these measures are vital to maintain public safety, preserve law and order, and support uninterrupted security operations. Residents have been urged to cooperate fully, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain patient during the enforcement period.

South Waziristan has witnessed a worsening security situation over recent months, including terrorist attacks targeting civilians and institutions. Notably, on November 10, 2025, Afghan nationals attacked Cadet College Wana, but a swift response by security forces neutralised the threat, rescuing students and staff while resulting in the martyrdom of three individuals.

Authorities emphasise that Section 144 is a precautionary measure to ensure sustainable peace and the safety of residents while supporting ongoing security operations in the region.
