The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi has moved forward with plans to open a campus in Islamabad after its Board of Governors approved the proposal during a meeting held on Thursday.

Officials briefed during the session said that the land acquisition process for the new campus in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area of Islamabad is nearly complete. The board was informed that the initiative would not require fresh federal legislation. Instead, amendments would be introduced to the existing IBA Act of 1994, a Sindh law, to permit the institution to operate a campus in the federal capital.

Secretary, Boards and Universities Abbas Baloch, who attended the meeting, assured members that the required legal amendments would be processed promptly to facilitate the project.

In addition to the campus proposal, the board also approved plans to construct 32 residential flats for faculty members and staff. The housing project is intended to address accommodation challenges faced by the institution's employees.

According to officials, the Islamabad campus forms part of IBA’s broader expansion strategy aimed at increasing its academic reach. The proposed facility is expected to focus on executive education and postgraduate programmes, particularly for professionals and corporate leaders based in Islamabad and other parts of northern Pakistan.

Founded in 1955, IBA Karachi is regarded as one of Pakistan’s leading business schools. It functioned as a constituent institution of the University of Karachi until gaining independent status through the IBA Act in 1994.
