Maybe, just maybe … countries are best governed by those without a history of dealing with foreign nations to enrich themselves or their firms, especially when those nations are egregious human rights violators and terrorist financiers like Qatar.

Of course, that would mean both U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney never should have been on a ballot.

In many ways, the two are quite similar. Both were touted as being the best to lead their respective countries because many asserted they were successful “businessmen.” In 2016, Fortune Magazine noted there was no question that Trump’s perceived business acumen was one of the main reasons he was viewed as the right person for the job. Likewise, in 2025, the Globe and Mail suggested that Carney’s “business experience cemented his reputation for pragmatism.”
