'He really wants power': The Liberals are now fully The Carney Party

Nearly one year after winning a minority government, Prime Minister Mark Carney has parlayed a handful of floor crossings and byelection victories into a majority — the first Liberal majority government in seven years. Last week’s defection by now-former Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu marked the fifth floor crossing to the Liberals (four Conservatives and one New Democrat), while the Liberals swept all three byelections Monday night.

As his first act as a majority prime minister, Carney announced Tuesday morning a temporary suspension of the federal fuel excise tax on gasoline and diesel — diffusing a potential liability on the affordability issue that the Conservatives had sought to exploit. In this video, Rob Breakenridge is joined by Postmedia national politics columnist Tasha Kheiriddin to discuss her belief that we could now see Mark Carney unencumbered with a majority in place.
