As electric school bus deployment expands across Canada, the conversation surrounding them is beginning to evolve. Beyond vehicles, charging infrastructure and funding, greater attention is now being paid to the workforce needed to support these fleets over the long term.

Around 52,000 school buses operate across Canada and the vast majority still run on diesel. Electrifying these fleets offers an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving air quality for the millions of children who ride them every day. That makes school buses one of the strongest candidates for transportation electrification.

Further, electric school buses are no longer a future technology. More than 1,000 electric school buses are already in service across Canada, demonstrating that the technology performs successfully across a wide range of climates and operating conditions.

Through our work with school bus operators across Canada, from fleet electrification planning to real-world pilot deployments, one thing has become increasingly clear: while technology, economics and policy determine how quickly electric school buses are deployed, the workforce will play a major role in determining how successfully they........
