Neal: 10 months later, 3 questions about the killing of Nooran Rezayi

I woke up in my daughter’s bed with the summer sun already pouring through the curtains of her bedroom window. Before I even opened my eyes, I knew what day it was. Report card day. 

The night before, my daughter had worried herself to sleep, wondering what her report card would say and whether she’d earned a privilege she’d been working toward for months. 

We were about to have our usual conversation about effort, responsibility, and understanding what it means for both our son and daughter to earn the trust that will keep me (but mostly their father) off their backs when the new school year starts. Modern parenting at its finest.

Then I opened the news app on my phone.

Eleven teenagers now face criminal charges following a Montreal police investigation into the events that preceded the fatal police shooting of 15-year-old Nooran Rezayi in Longueuil last September.
