Education is Not a Degree, It’s Character Building

Let us teach our children how to say vote of thanks from the heart, not just as a formality on stage.

Let us teach them that a degree will fill their stomach, but character will fill their life.

If we want to save Pakistan, we have to rebuild our schools as workshops of character, not just factories of degrees.

We have made a dangerous mistake in our society. We have started to believe that education is a piece of paper. We think that if a young man has a degree in his hand, he is educated. If he has high marks, he is successful. But we are wrong. A degree can give you a job, but it cannot give you character. And without character, a degree is just a burden on society. Look around us. We have thousands of graduates, masters, PhDs, but how many truly educated people do we have? An educated person is not the one who knows how to write an exam, but the one who knows how to behave in society, how to respect his elders, how to speak the truth even when it is difficult, and how to show gratitude when someone helps him.

Today our schools and colleges are factories of marks. Parents ask, “How many marks did my son get?” No one asks, “How much manners did my son learn?” Teachers are forced to complete the syllabus, not to build the personality of a student.........
