Rockstar Games announced Thursday that it will unveil new footage of "Grand Theft Auto VI" through a first-of-its-kind streaming partnership with Netflix, premiering the highly anticipated preview on the platform before releasing it more broadly on YouTube later the same day.
According to a press release issued by Rockstar Games, "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look" will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. Eastern time. The presentation will then launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the "Grand Theft Auto VI" website at 9 p.m. Eastern that same day, giving Netflix subscribers a six-hour exclusive window to view the new footage before it becomes freely available elsewhere.
A Streaming-First Approach for a Blockbuster Launch
The decision to debut new "GTA 6" footage on Netflix rather than through Rockstar's usual social media and YouTube channels marks an unusual marketing approach for the studio, which has historically released trailers directly to the public without a streaming exclusivity window.
