Sapporo Is Selling Stone Brewing Again—Here’s Why That Might Be Good for American Craft Beer
A new acquisition finds Stone Brewing in the hands of a Belgian brand.

A passing of the beer can—San Diego craft beer staple, Stone Brewing, is being sold to a new owner. Per a report from Axios, Japanese brewer Sapporo is set to save around $23 million by selling off Stone and its California taprooms to Duvel Moortgat, a Belgian brewery group. Duvel is taking over Sapporo’s duties as owners, looking to keep the craft beer alive.
This comes as the second time the California brand has changed hands, with their last sale being only four years ago. Duvel Moortgat, operates 13 breweries globally, including the respected craft beer brand Firestone Walker, located in Paso Robles, California. According........
