The long line for Manifestival shows there’s an alternative

It’s now two hours before noon – the scheduled time for the screening of Naza – and a line of people is already beginning to form in front of the theater. As the minutes pass, the line grows longer. And it keeps getting longer still. By 11:30 a.m., it’s at least two hundred meters long.

There is no defeat. There is an alternative. What that alternative looks like will become clear in the coming months (or perhaps already in the coming weeks), but the second day of the Manifestival is the day on which we can say that the famous “broad coalition” is there – at least as a possibility. The presence on the Palladium stage of the leaders of the quasi-coalition that will try to wrest control of the country from Giorgia Meloni was by no means a given on the eve of the event.

The doubts were due to the prosaic reason that when they went to the Chamber of Deputies a few days ago for the final vote on the electoral reform law, PD Secretary Elly Schlein and Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte had both come down with something. And so, on this typical morning of dark clouds and rain – an unwavering presence at this festival – the hottest topic to start off with is seasonal illness. Only for a little while, though,........
