US President Donald Trump brushed off the controversy around posting an AI-generated image of himself as the pope.

An image of Trump in full papal regalia — white cassock, headpiece and gold crucifix — was posted online on Friday by the president and on official White House social media accounts.

Catholic officials variously described the depiction as “deeply offensive,” “sad” and “unfortunate.”
