It took some coaxing for Matthew McConaughey to propose to his now-wife, Camila Alves.

Matthew revealed during a podcast appearance earlier this week that it was a conversation with his then-4-year-old son that prompted him to finally get down on one knee.

Speaking to Chris Williamson on Modern Wisdom, the actor recalled: “My son comes to me at four years old and says, ‘Why isn’t Mama a McConaughey?’.”

At the time, Camila and Matthew had been together since 2006, and shared two children: a son, Levi, and a daughter, Vida.

“I’m going through my head, ‘You’re fucking four, dude,’” Matthew said. “It’s a great question, but I mean ―– because we’re not married. When you get married, you switch your name.”
