Are salons responsible if your coat is stolen during an appointment?

Salons and hairdressers are usually not liable for stolen coats unless they take direct responsibility for the item.

Q: My wife went to a hair salon, and while she was there her coat was stolen. Her hair dresser tried to contact all the customers that were there during that time but unfortunately it was never found. The owner of the salon subleases chairs to individual hair dressers who work there, one of which is my wife's hair dresser. Does the owner or my wife's hairdresser have any responsibility for the loss of the coat?

A: Probably not. A salon owner and any hairdressers who lease space are generally not responsible for the loss or theft of a personal item such as a coat, unless the item is specifically placed in their care. If a customer........
