MG ALBA has scored major wins on screen, but chair John Morrison warns that chronic under‑funding now threatens the future of Gaelic broadcasting.

At MG ALBA, we love to inform, educate and entertain, while delivering the biggest "bang for buck".  So we were delighted to announce three major new deals recently.

Firstly, we secured the only UK free to air television rights for Italian Serie A football matches.

The Italian league features several stalwarts of the Scotland national men’s team that manager Steve Clark will be taking to the World Cup this summer.

Chief among them are Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour, both of Napoli, and Lewis Ferguson, of Bologna. They will all be appearing on BBC ALBA over the next couple of months.

Then we announced that a second series of the multiple award-winning crime drama, An t-Eilean, will start filming in Lewis shortly.

Having won the Grand Prix and Best Drama in the CIRCOM European television awards for the first series, it would have been unthinkable not to produce a follow-up. 

Finally, a new deal will see Gaelic children’s programmes appearing on a new YouTube channel, BBC ALBA Clann, bringing our highly-regarded content to where the largest audiences hang out these days.
