Landmark Scottish hotels on market and 'exciting new chapter'

There has been plenty going on in Scotland’s hotels sector in the last week.

The biggest news came somewhat out of the blue – the Crerar hotels portfolio being put up for sale.

This portfolio contains nine Scottish properties which will be well known by many.

A tenth hotel in the portfolio is in the Lake District.

The Crerar hotels business has been put up for sale less than four years after it last changed hands.

Property agent Savills, appointed to market the portfolio, highlighted the strength of Scotland’s hotel sector as it announced the Crerar portfolio was being put up for sale.

Asked about interest so far in the properties, Savills told The Herald: “Early indications of interest are from a mix of domestic and international buyers, including hotel operators, private equity and family offices. Scotland has global appeal and with [circa] 40 million people globally claiming ancestry to Scotland, there is exponential interest in acquiring hotels in the region.”

The Crerar hotels business, which now employs about 450 people in Scotland and 500 in total including its hotel in the Lake District, was bought by Blantyre Capital and Fairtree Hotel Investments in a deal announced in March 2023.

And three hotels were added to the Crerar hotels portfolio as a result of this acquisition.

The Crerar portfolio comprises 589 rooms across the 10 hotels, which range from 42 to 100 rooms.

It includes landmark properties such as The Glencoe Inn and Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa at Inveraray.

Also in the portfolio are Oban Bay Hotel, Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa at Craignure, Balmoral Arms at Ballater on Royal........
