Airline reveals plans for new Scottish flights
It is good to hear of the major airline's plans for new Scottish flights, writes Business Editor Ian McConnell, who says this is good news for both passengers and the airports. This news comes on the back of significant expansion which has seen 15 new destinations launched from four Scottish airports.
Big anniversaries have been very much to the fore in the last week.
On Monday, easyJet UK country manager Kevin Doyle was at Glasgow Airport as the airline celebrated the 30th anniversary of its first-ever flight. This flight was from London Luton Airport to Glasgow.
In many ways, it does not seem like 30 years since I interviewed easyJet’s founder, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, ahead of the airline starting its operations.
Whatever the case on that front, what is crystal clear is the scale of the transformation of this sector since 1995.
My column in The Herald on Wednesday on my interviews with Mr Doyle and easyJet’s founder, three decades apart, highlighted the degree of scepticism back in 1995 about what Sir Stelios (who was knighted in 2006 for services to entrepreneurship) was planning.
