Guy Stenhouse: Cheerio, Nicola, you will not be missed
Nicola Sturgeon has at long last said something which I entirely agree with. She said she felt a “sense of relief” as she announced she would not seek re-election as an MSP at the 2026 elections for the Scottish Parliament.
I share her sense of relief. Nicola Sturgeon has been a complete disaster for Scotland. With no little conceit she points to the run of elections “she” won. The strong legacy she inherited from Alex Salmond airbrushed, like the man himself, from her mind.
The fact that the SNP’s electoral success owed much to an unelectable Labour Party and a disliked Conservative Government rather than love for the SNP also gone from her review of her own magnificence.
Fortunately for us all Sturgeon was a failure in her central quest to remove Scotland from the UK. Endless silly demands designed to pick fights with the UK Government, the laughable turning of the 2024 General Election into a “de facto referendum” - which was lost convincingly by the separatists.
The dial moved not one inch on her long watch.
Sturgeon divided us by all that she did. She said she “hated Tories” and felt that she had........
