Andy Burnham’s first week as the new UK prime minister saw a raft of announcements. These included cutting VAT on energy bills and a £2 cap on bus fares. There was also news of a reduction in business rates for pubs, clubs and live music venues.

The removal of the 5% VAT on electricity bills for households is expected to come into effect in October and last for six months. The government says the move could save the average household £45 on their annual bill.
