Despite improvement in security scenario in Kashmir, politicians continue to stay away from the common people and seem least interested in reaching out to the voters who elected them. The moot question they need to answer is, why do they prefer seclusion over inclusion? The growing perception seems that mainstream politics in Kashmir has drifted away from addressing everyday concerns of the common man and has got caught in a quagmire of issues that have little direct bearing on the lives of denizens in the Valley.

It’s a well-established fact that times have changed and there is no room left for emotional speeches and lip service. People want results. A common man wants to know what have the MLAs, whom he voted for in 2024, done for him. They want their elected representatives to speak up and be accountable to them. However, a large section of the people continues to feel alienated—not merely from governments, but from politics itself.

Primary ResponsibilityThe primary responsibility of any elected representative is simple: to improve the lives of the people who elected them. Employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure, investment, tourism, agriculture, business opportunities and transparent governance should dominate the political discourse. Unfortunately, many believe these issues often receive less attention than they deserve.It’s strange that politicians in Kashmir leave no opportunity to give their opinion on any international issue that has nothing to do with the lives of the common people living in the Valley.
