From overconfidence to phobia
At the outset, I assumed myself an exceedingly proficient driver. Confidence behind the wheel came naturally to me; and over time that confidence twisted into overconfidence. I had the notion that my driving abilities were advanced and that accidents happened only to sloppy drivers. What made me even more confident was the fact that I stunned everyone at home with how well I could drive. They had no idea that I had acquired such skills and their amazement gave me a sense of attainment. It felt as though I had proved myself.
