Following his strong appeal to Amarnath Yatris to dedicate at least 10% of their travel budget towards purchasing local Kashmiri products, a vital step for securing the economic future of local families, Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again championed the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. In the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister turned the national spotlight on Wagoov, a centuries-old, eco-friendly Kashmiri craft. He specifically lauded the tireless efforts of Srinagar-based artisan Ghulam Hussain and his daughter Tanzila, who are playing a pivotal role in reviving this traditional art form. Emphasizing the need to secure both the traditional art and the economic future of hardworking local families, PM Modi urged citizens to actively embrace indigenous heritage by making the Kashmiri Wagoov a proud addition to their homes.

The current challenges of economic uncertainty, rising inflation, and unemployment demand that we vigorously promote our local produce and products. This approach will not only stabilize our local economy but also help eradicate the unemployment crisis by creating new job opportunities. Furthermore, the revival of local industries will safeguard our magnificent traditional and cultural values, which are our true identity.

To make India self-reliant, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the public to prioritize domestically manufactured goods over foreign products. While this message serves the broader interests of the entire nation, it can be utilized as an excellent roadmap to revitalize Kashmir’s economy and eliminate unemployment. Kashmir possesses numerous sectors that, if developed under the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local’, can not only achieve economic stability but also ensure the eternal preservation of the region’s culture and civilization. This approach can open new doors for sustainable development and employment in Kashmir.
