Letter of gratitude to VC, UoK
Respected Madam Vice Chancellor,
A doctoral degree is earned through years of research, discipline and sacrifice. Once it is awarded, a scholar assumes the struggle is over. Mine was not. I write this open letter to thank you for the fairness with which you handled my case, and to record what happened so that other scholars may understand it.
The case in briefI completed my M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and the University of Kashmir awarded me a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering. That degree was already in my hands. Later, however, some university authorities decided to change the discipline on my degree from Computer Science and Engineering to Computer Science. This was far more than a change of wording. In academic hiring, the discipline on a degree decides eligibility. Many engineering colleges and technical institutions require a PhD in an engineering discipline for faculty positions. A degree renamed “Computer Science” would have closed those doors to me, years after I had earned my qualification in good faith.
Why the change was not justifiedThe........
