The world rabies day, observed every year on September 28, commemorates the death anniversary of a French chemist, Louis Pasteur, whose legacy developed the first successful rabies vaccine in 1885. This year’s theme is “Stronger Together”. The message is that a collaboration among communities, veterinary professionals, healthcare workers, governments, educators, and global partners can eliminate rabies.Rabies virus, lyssavirus genus within the Rhabdoviridae family, affects the brain and nervous system of humans and animals. It is primarily transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected animal, particularly dogs, and is almost always fatal once symptoms appear. Reaching the brain, the virus causes severe inflammation, leading to anxiety, confusion, aggression, hallucinations, difficulty swallowing, paralysis and death if treatment is not received before symptoms begin. 

Besides dog, virus infects bats, cats, and other mammals through bites scratches and saliva. Infected cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, horses, suffer from neurological disease often leading to deaths. All infected animals pose risk to human contraction. Rabies........
