Supreme Court Warns ED Against Meddling In Functioning Of Other Agencies
The Supreme Court’s stern warning to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against meddling in the functioning of other investigating agencies is timely and necessary. The rule of law demands that every institution operate within its statutory jurisdiction, however powerful it may be. A vacation bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana delivered this message while hearing petitions filed by CPI(M) leader and former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter Veena, and her husband, Mohammed Riyas.
“Don’t extend your hand beyond your statutory limits,” the bench told the ED, making it clear that the agency could not dictate how the state police or other competent authorities should act on information it supplied.
