When country music artist Jelly Roll guest-hosted The Jimmy Kimmel Show from August 24–27 and went after President Trump, it unleashed fury from country music fans and the president’s supporters — fury sparked just in time to energize Trump voters for the midterm elections this year.
The fury at Jelly Roll isn’t because he doesn’t think like us; we tend to be free thinkers over here on the right. Rather, the big dude with all the face tattoos is — plot twist — actually not authentic at all.
And one of the things many country music fans and supporters of this president have in common is the high premium we place on authenticity. We value it, we’re loyal to it, and we can sniff out a fake.

Few people understood the value of authenticity better than the late, great Dolly Parton. She never charted a course set by someone else’s agenda just to fit in.
We don’t have to ask what she’d do if given Jimmy Kimmel’s microphone. In a 2018 ABC interview, she told us, "I learned a long time ago, keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business. I’m not in politics, I’m an entertainer."
